BRUCEDALE – New crosswalk beacons will be placed at the pedestrian crosswalk on Main Street (Wellington Road 27) in the north end of Rockwood.
Guelph/Eramosa councillor Mark Bouwmeester announced the new beacons during a regular council meeting on March 3.
The crosswalk, which was constructed in 2024, is located at the entrance of Rockmosa Park, at the intersection of Main Street North and Rockmosa Drive.
“What we noticed quite quickly was the visibility, especially if you are coming southbound, was sort of limited for vehicles to see people lined up to cross the road,” said Bouwmeester.
To counter this, the county put in delineators, which Bouwmeester said seemed to work well.
However, the delineators have since been removed for the winter season, leaving the crosswalk exposed, warranting the need for a more permanent solution.
“We have been working on getting flashing beacons,” said Bouwmeester, noting other local crosswalks have them. “It increases visibility and safety overall quite substantially.”
While he did not provide a time frame for when the beacons will be installed, Bouwmeester told council to expect them “in the very near future.”
