Crime Stoppers releases 2024 statistics

WELLINGTON COUNTY  – Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) officials say there were 668 tips provided to the program in 2024, either through its toll-free number (1-800-222-TIPS) or its website (csgw.tips).

These tips were forwarded to investigative partners, including Guelph Police Service and Wellington County OPP, among others.

Officials say this information resulted in four arrests, five cases cleared, and 18 charges laid.

As a result of providing information about criminal activity anonymously and confidentially, information providers qualified for $1,130 in rewards, as approved by the CSGW board of directors.

The 2024 statistics were finalized at the January board meeting.

“[Last year was] a successful year for CSGW, where we have been able to safely and anonymously protect tipster information and provide that information to allow the police to investigate and hold criminals accountable for their actions,” CSGW board chair Dave Elloway stated in a press release.

“CSGW is proud to support our communities and to make Guelph Wellington safer.”

Crime Stoppers is not the police, but a community-based not-for-profit organization with a board of directors.

These individuals are volunteers from the City of Guelph and County of Wellington who want to live and work in safe communities, officials say.
