County closes libraries, waste facilities, museum, in response to storm warning

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Libraries and waste facilities across the county are closed today in response to a major winter storm warning.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives has also been closed.

The storm is expected to continue through the weekend, bringing, in some areas, snowfalls anywhere from 15 to 50cm by Sunday.

The storm is also expected to include winds up to 100km/h at times, creating widespread blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions.

In a press release issued early on Dec. 23, the county announced the closure of:

  • all Wellington County libraries;
  • Wellington County Museum and Archives;
  • all county waste facilities.

The release states that curbside garbage/recycling/green bin collection scheduled for today will continue, but may change due to weather conditions.

“The county will continue to provide local updates as information becomes available,” county officials state.

“All county facility closures and interruptions to service will be posted on social media and on the county’s website.

“Residents are encouraged to follow their local municipality on social media for local updates.”
