Councillors to get information on Legion book costs

Though there were no qualms about supporting a Military Service Recognition Book, the only issues arising were the amount, and from where the money would come.

On Nov. 5 Puslinch councillors reviewed a request from the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command asking for the municipality’s support.

Correspondence by president Bruce Julian stated, “The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command is very proud to be printing 17,500 copies of our second annual “Military Service Recognition Book”, scheduled for release by September 2015. This book will assist us in identifying and recognizing many of our veterans within the Province of Ontario and to serve as a reminder for generations to come, while at the same time assist us in our job as the ‘Keepers of Remembrance’.”

In asking for the township’s support, Julian stated funds would cover the costs of printing and distribution, while any extra funds would assist and support other Legion initiatives. Advertising costs ranged from $243 to $2,030 (excluding HST).

Councillor Wayne Stokley said he would like the township to be involved, but he felt council should have a discussion as to what level of support it should take.

He noted the document provided offered a number of choices from a full-colour page to a 10th of a page (business card size).

“Do we need to look at how something like that would fit into the budget or financed?” Stokley asked.

“Once we have a better idea of that, I’d be in favour of moving this forward.”
