Puslinch councillors are doubtful a Ministry of Transportation survey on travel patterns around Highway 6 and the 401 will produce much useful information.
On July 26 and 27 officials with McCormick Rankin Corporation handed out voluntary surveys to motorists on behalf of the MTO, for two hours each during the morning and evening rushes, at three intersections: Hanlon Expressway and Wellington Road 34, Brock Road and Nicholas Beaver Road, and Highway 6 and Calfass Road in Morriston.
Participants were asked to fill out the 10-question survey and mail it back to the study team.
“The work is proposed to better ascertain travel movements in and around Highway 401 and Highway 6 new and proposed interchanges,” McCormick Rankin engineer Jim Dowell wrote earlier this summer.
But on Aug. 17 councillor Susan Fielding said she is “disappointed.” Handing out the survey for a few hours in the summer will not produce good data, she opined.
Mayor Dennis Lever agreed, saying he thought more would be done to determine travel patterns.
“I’m kind of skeptical of the process, as well,” he said.
The mayor suggested the township ask for the results of the study, particularly how many surveys were handed out and the response rate. The rest of council seemed to agree.
