KENILWORTH – Wellington North council has approved a grant of $5,000 to help the Ramoth Life Centre pave its driveway and parking lot.
“I think it’s a very worthwhile organization to support, so I’m glad that we’re able to do so,” Mayor Andy Lennox said.
He was speaking during the Jan. 27 virtual council meeting, where a “Building Conversion and Improvement Grant” was approved under the township’s Community Improvement Program.
The Ramoth Life Centre, located at 119 Wellington St. W. in Mount Forest, is a charitable organization that operates as a cooperative living residence for young women who are pregnant or parenting children under a year old.
According to a report included with the council meeting agenda, the driveway and parking area to be paved is located between Ramoth House and Ramoth apartment building.
“Currently, there are numerous hazards due to the lack of pavement and cohesive layout of this area,” the report stated. “The potholes and dividers are a trip hazard, and the parking area is not clearly defined.”
It goes on to state that the area to be repaved is visible to the public, “and a newly resurfaced paved drive would greatly enhance the curb appeal of their buildings which are centrally located downtown.”
The township has included $35,000 in its 2025 operating budget to support Community Improvement Program applications, the report stated.
Applicants are eligible for Building Conversion and Improvement Grants – which are intended, among other things, to remove barriers and increase accessibility – totalling 50 per cent of project costs to a maximum of $5,000.
“The cost of a newly resurfaced paved driveway is $39,582 which means they are eligible for the full $5,000,” the report stated.
Council approved the grant, which was the first one approved for the 2025 Community Improvement Program.
