DRAYTON – Starting in December, there will be 64 spaces at a new childcare centre at St. Martin of Tours Catholic School in Drayton.

The licensed centre will be operated by the Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington (CRC) through the Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB).

The school is expected to open for 222 students in kindergarten through Grade 8 in September 2027.

The childcare centre, expected to open on Dec. 1, will have 10 infant spaces, 30 toddler spaces and 24 preschool spaces, with funding through the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system.

Families can join the waitlist immediately through the Wellington-Guelph Centralized Waitlist (OneHSN). Registration on the waitlist does not guarantee a space, but ensures families are considered as spaces become available.

“This is an exciting and important step forward for our organization and the families we serve,” stated CRC executive director Alyssandra Kent in a press release.

“We know that access to quality childcare is essential for healthy communities and strong local economies. This expansion allows us to better meet the needs of families in Drayton and the surrounding area.”

Officials say the centre will offer developmentally appropriate, play-based programming aligned with provincial standards, delivered by qualified early childhood educators.

CRC currently operates before- and after-school programming through the WCDSB across Centre Wellington.

Officials say CRC will work closely with community partners, local stakeholders and families to ensure the centre reflects the unique needs of the Drayton community.

More details, including enrolment information and staffing opportunities, will be shared as the project progresses.
