Community commitment

In 1968, Advertiser founder Bill Adsett set out with the goal of providing a valuable service to Wellington residents and businesses.

Over 46 years later, much has changed in the industry and this Newspaper has grown and evolved into the definitive News leader in the county.

But what has not changed  in all that time is our pledge to serve the community – and at no time is that unwavering commitment more evident than during municipal election campaigns.

From Clifford to Crieff, Alma to Ospringe, and places beyond and in between, the Advertiser will keep residents informed with election News, right up to and following voting day on Oct. 27.

This week we are featuring brief introductions to all 115 candidates running for spots on the seven lower tier municipal councils, on county council and on the various school boards.

Those introductions, along with maps and other vital municipal and voter information, fill 16 pages in this week’s second section.

It is a sizeable commitment – but one we felt was necessary in order to ensure Wellington County voters are informed come Oct. 27 (or whenever they decide to mail in their ballots).

While municipal officials often get carried away with their campaign to increase voter turnout, we consider it our duty to make sure all those who do vote – whether that number is 3,000 or 30,000 – are as informed as possible before filling out their ballot.

We hope readers will find this week’s coverage proof of that commitment.

There will be plenty more election coverage to come in the Advertiser, but we feel this edition is a fine example in keeping with our founder’s original goal.
