Clifford house fire causes approximately $400,000 in damage

House fire causes damage – Minto firefighters were called to a house fire on Clarke Street in Clifford around 5:30am on Aug. 16. Clifford and Harriston stations responded first and found fire had already broken through two of the main floor windows.

A neighbour had heard the windows breaking and called the fire in. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters on the scene, reported Chris Harrow, director of fire services for Minto and Wellington North. Harrow said firefighters knocked the fire down upon entering the house, made their way up to the second floor and found the fire had burnt through and the floor had collapsed to the main floor.

“The firefighters exited the building and we used our aerial truck to contain the spread of the fire,” Harrow explained.

Fire damage is pegged at approximately $400,000 and Harrow said the fire is not considered suspicious. The Palmerston Station was also called to the scene for a total response of 35 firefighters.
