Clear your shelves: Giant book sale just around corner
Sale running May 1 to 3
ELORA – The Elora Giant Book Sale has been running since 1989 at the Elora Curling Club.
In that first year, the sale was small and consisted of a few tables in the lounge area of the curling club, bringing in a total of $2,000.
Mark your calendars and clear your shelves, the 36th Elora Giant Book Sale is set to take place May 1 to 3 at the Elora Curling Club (27 David St. W., Elora).
Friday hours have been extended to ease crowds at the popular event.
On May 1 doors will open at 1pm, and close at 9pm. hours on May 2 run 9am to 5pm, and 9am to 4pm on May 3.
More than 60,000 items have been sorted by 20 to 30 volunteers working year-round collecting, unloading, sorting, culling, and pricing.
Book donations are up this year, and book sale volunteers are grateful to all who donated by leaving books in the Book Depot shed in downtown Fergus.
Gently puzzles, games, CDs, LPs, and other related items are also available at the sale.
Reasonably priced books are arranged in around 40 categories, including a large children’s section, “staff picks” and the collector’s corner — often including a number of rare books, officials say.
There are no purchase restrictions.
Patrons can pay by cash, debit or credit card, although there is a three per cent fee that will be charged on electronic payment methods to offset bank fees.
All proceeds go directly to the Elora Festival and Singers. As the Festival’s biggest fundraiser, last year’s sale raised over $95,000.
There is a nominal $5 admission fee on Friday only.
Parking is free.
