Centre Wellington Singers go to the movies this spring

ELORA – Celebrate spring in style this year with a Hollywood-themed musical extravaganza from Centre Wellington Singers.

The not-for-profit all voice community choir – now in its 29th year – is bringing their music back to Hope Springs Church in Elora.

This year’s musical guest is audience favourite, professional baritone Paul Grambo.

Grambo has performed extensively across Canada in both opera and musical theatre.

He has also sung as both a chorister and a soloist with The Elora Festival Singers.

This spring’s repertoire features songs from movies old and new – think Goldfinger to The Greatest Showman.

It will be the final concert directed by the multi-talented Jurgen Petrenko.

Organist, pianist, former CBC executive producer, and Order of Niagara recipient, Petrenko has conducted CWS for eight years and is a highly valued staple of the Elora music scene.

He is taking a step back from his many choir-directing positions, and this concert promises to be a wonderful send off for a great musician.

“We’re excited to perform such a fun, uplifting theme as our last concert under Jurgen’s direction,” says Lillian Gohn, CWS president.

“Jurgen’s calm, easy-going manner has been an asset to our choir over the last few years. He will be greatly missed, but we plan to put on a great show to celebrate his hard work!”

The concert takes place on May 3, at 3pm at Hope Springs United Church in Elora. Once the music stops, the fun continues as the audience can mingle with the musicians over tea and treats in the church’s fellowship hall.

Tickets are $20 adults, children 12 and under $5.

Tickets are available from choir members, Magic Pebble Books in Elora, Fergus Scottish Corner Shop in Fergus or call 519 843 5419, or email centrewellingtonsingers@gmail.com.

Limited tickets will be available at the door.
