Centre Wellington receives water, wastewater funding

In October Centre Wellington staff applied for project funding under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF).

The township recently learned its application was approved and projects may commence immediately.

The township will receive approximately $131,095 from the federal government and $857,584 from the provincial government for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Work is scheduled to commence in 2018.

Township projects nominated for federal government funding by the province include:

– inflow and infiltration into sanitary sewer mitigation and cast-iron watermain replacement in Fergus on James Street (Forfar Street to Churchill Cres.) and Churchill Cres.; and

– trunk storm sewer replacement (Moir Street to the Irvine River) to reduce risk of flooding in downtown Elora and neighbouring homes.

“This funding has come at an important time for the township, where reliable infrastructure is a priority,” said Mayor Kelly Linton.

“Our township, staff and council thank the federal and provincial government for investing in our water and wastewater infrastructure.

“These projects are extremely important in providing exceptional services to our residents.”

In 2016 the federal budget announced the establishment of the CWWF that proposes to invest up to $570 million in federal funding and up to $270 million in provincial funding in Ontario.
