Centre Wellington CAO announces his retirement

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Andy Goldie will be retiring as CAO of Centre Wellington Township effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Mayor Kelly Linton announced at the Committee of Whole meeting Sept. 20 that Goldie’s last day will be Dec. 31.

Centre Wellington CAO Andy Goldie is retiring at the end of this year.

Goldie spent 33 years working in municipal government – 16 with Centre Wellington.

“The decision to retire was a very difficult one as it has been an honour to serve council and the residents of Centre Wellington as the township’s CAO,” Goldie stated in a press release.

“The senior leadership team is an exceptional group of talented and dedicated staff. Our equally hard-working township staff go above and beyond to provide the best possible service to our residents.  I am truly blessed to work in such a cohesive and supportive environment.  Being the township’s CAO has been an extremely rewarding experience.”

Goldie will be leaving after guiding the township through one of the most challenging circumstances in its history, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through his leadership, staff continued to operate township facilities and services and offered virtual opportunities to ensure the community stayed connected.

Under Goldie’s leadership, the township has accomplished impressive results for Centre Wellington residents and businesses, township officials state in the release. Highlights include:

  • the 2015-2018 and 2018-2022 strategic plans;
  • the bridge rebuilding capital levy;
  • several comprehensive master plans;
  • major investments in economic development and tourism including moving forward with the township’s new 55-acre business park; and
  • a partnership with Wellington County and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to create a vaccination hub at the CW Sportsplex which proved to be instrumental in Centre Wellington reaching a vaccination rate of over 80%.

“On behalf of council and staff, I want to sincerely thank Mr. Goldie for his dedication to our township, and applaud him on an outstanding career,” Linton stated in the release.  “Andy’s professionalism, desire to accomplish great things for our community and township team over the years has been instrumental in the success we have had.

Linton continued, “Over the years, I have continued to be amazed and appreciative of Andy’s inspired and consistent leadership. There is no question in my mind that we would not have accomplished these impressive results without him. Andy and I forged a very strong Mayor-CAO partnership, and I will personally miss working with him. We wish Andy all the best in his next chapter.”

To ensure a seamless transition, council will prioritize the recruitment of a new CAO over the coming months.
