WELLINGTON COUNTY – Six local weightlifting athletes have qualified for the 2024 Ontario Winter Games in Thunder Bay, Feb. 16 to 26.

ROCKWOOD – Local 20-year-old Daniel Clarke has been drafted by the Halifax Wanderers Football Club as a goalkeeper. 

FERGUS – The Sticks ’n’ Stones bonspiel took place at the Fergus Curling Club on Nov. 10.

CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Dec. 12,  seven Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) schools sent 28 teams to Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) for the 2023 Special Olympics Guelph Basketball Qualifier.

MAPLETON – The township’s Parks and Recreation Committee is looking at creating a policy regarding allocation of ice time at the PMD arena.

ERIN – On Dec. 11 work crews removed the decades-old arena scoreboard from Centre 2000 in Erin and replaced it with a modern LED digital display board.

FERGUS – The Hugh Black Bonspiel at the Fergus Curling Club on Dec. 2 honoured the Black family, members of which were among the original settlers of Fergus.

ROCKWOOD - Athletes from the Rockwood Japan Karate Dojo joined over 100 competitors at a provincial tournament in Scarborough on Dec. 3.

ARTHUR  – Keira Healey from Arthur played with Team Ontario Red and won gold in the Canadian Junior Hockey Nationals in early November.

FERGUS – The Bears (Cheerleading) of Fergus travelled to Sandusky, Ohio on Nov. 18 and 19 to compete in the All Star Challenge: Queen of the Nile acrobatics competition.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Myrna Bilton, president of the International Shuffleboard Association inducted Norm Lindsay, president of the Canadian National Shuffleboard Association into the International Suffleboard Hall of Fame.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Rich Wigmore and Cassie Silverthorn played for the Great Britain Heritage Team at the World Ball and Dek Hockey Federation (WBDHF) 4 on 4 World Championships, bringing home gold and silver medals.

PALMERSTON - On Nov. 18, the Montreal Canadiens Alumni team came to the Palmerston and District Community Centre Complex.

GUELPH – Students in Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute's (GCVI) learning resource class had the opportunity to play hockey with Guelph Storm players on Nov. 13.

GUELPH – The Centre Wellington District High School junior boys volleyball team played in the D10 final on Nov. 13.
