Car fire in wooded area west of Elora: OPP seeking information

On Aug. 30 at about 10:30am members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police  along with Centre Wellington Fire Rescue responded to a car fire off Wellington Road 21, west of Elora.

A Nissan 4 door sedan was driven off the roadway and into a wooded area of the Pilkington Outlook of the Grand River Conservation Authority.

CWFR deputy fire chief, training and suppression, Jonathan Karn said the intial report was in regard to a car fire in a wooded area.

The Elora station responded with six firefighters. Karn noted the call was updated to include some of the bush being on fire as well so the tanker from the Fergus station was requested to respond for additional water. A total of nine firefighters were on scene for about one hour.

Karn explained there is a trail that can be accessed from the rear of the parking lot and it appears that the vehicle was driven a short distance down that trail. When fire arrived on scene the vehicle was completely involved in fire but none of the surrounding bush had ignited.

Wellington OPP report no one was injured however the car is considered a total loss. Police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Anyone who may have been in the area on the morning of Aug. 30 and saw anything suspicious or has a dash-cam is asked to contact the OPP.
