CanIron XIII coming to Fergus sportsplex Aug. 3 to 6

FERGUS – Contemporary blacksmiths and metal artists from across North America will converge on Fergus next week for CanIron XIII.

While  many of the events are for registrants only, several are open to the public and are free.

CanIron takes place Aug. 3 to 6 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Works from across Canada and the United States will be on exhibit made by blacksmiths with a wide array of sculptural and object pieces on display.

Additionally they will be hosting the travelling exhibit from Cloverdale Forge, #366 Hooks. https://cloverdaleforge.com/hooks/

Contemporary Blacksmiths are artists in their own right, and rather than being a dying art it is an evolving and developing art form that spans the practical to the whimsical.

Today’s blacksmiths make objects like no others, the forge allowing forming that is not possible in other types of metalwork.

From practical but unique kitchenware and household objects, to architechtural work, jewellery to sculpture and fine art, modern blacksmiths span a huge variety of items and styles.

CanIron is the National (and International) Canadian Blacksmithing Conference with a great slate of demonstrators and workshops.

Everyone who is attending the event is invited to bring work to display in the gallery, which is free admission to the public as well as the attendees.

“If you are looking for art that is both different and accessible to help set your gallery apart, come and see our amazing range of artists,” organizers say.

On Saturday evening there will be an auction, and there are often artists works available – also free admission.
