Busy summer in Centre Wellington

Centre Wellington councillors took time out from a busy meeting late last month to recognize the success of local events.

Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj said with the festival and events time in the township, “every weekend we have a lot of things going on.”

Ross-Zuj commended the numerous volunteers along with the massive amount of work and organization which went into last month’s FEDS (Fergus Elora District Soccer) Tournament for special needs.

She also touched on the mid-August conference for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario where Centre Wellington has booked appointments with numerous Ontario ministry representatives to speak on the Connecting Link program which affects funding for provincial highways which traverse urban areas of the municipality.

Other issues being discussed include healthcare and economic development, Ross-Zuj said.

She added one of the items the township had wanted to bring to the ministry was Centre Wellington’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP) proposal.

“It’s very much an economic development tool and one of the first questions the township is often asked is whether or not it has CIP programs.”

She stated the township cannot offer the various financial incentive programs for businesses or landowners until a Community Improvement Plan  is in place.
