Burn permit procedure already in place

It seems Puslinch is already ahead of the game when it comes to dealing with local burn permits.

On June 15, councillor Jerry  Schmidt presented a number of motions to address concerns brought to him by residents.

One was how the township deals with burn permits.

Schmidt requested council create a bylaw so residents do not have to go to the fire hall for a free, 30-day burn permit, and instead he recommended a fee of $20 for a three-month permit that could be issued at the municipal office.

In a written report to council, Chief Administrative Officer Brenda Law said the township is currently issuing burn permits during office hours.

Residents can also get permits from the fire hall if someone is there, and certainly on the Wednesday training nights.

There is no fee for burn permits, which encourages residents to get one and those permits are good for three months, law explained.

When asked by Mayor Dennis Lever if Schmidt wished to proceed with the motion, his response was “No. I’m comfortable that the meat of what was in the motion is already in effect.”

He said he had not been aware of that information prior to drafting his resolution.

Schmidt added he is more than willing to give the current process a chance.
