Building starts up, new inspector/bylaw enforcement officer hired

Multi-family units continue to make up the bulk of building permits issued in Wellington North.

“We’re still showing signs of more multi-family residential units,” chief building official Darren Jones told council at its Sept. 8 meeting.

In July the township issued $14,613 in permits for a construction value of $1.92 million, while in August the figures were $2.03 million for construction value and $22,500 in permits.

So far this year the building department has registered 155 permits valued at $13,958,780 with fees of $159,696.

That compares to values for the same period last year of $13,350,170 and permits of $154,841.

In a related matter, council approved the hiring of a new building inspector/bylaw enforcement officer.

Jonathon Taylor takes up the post after council approval at the Sept. 8 meeting.

Taylor has previous experience as a building inspector with the Township of Georgian Bay, Town of Aurora and Township of Rideau Lakes.

Township officials say Taylor’s “knowledge and expertise will serve to enhance” the building department.

“I had the privilege of driving through here in the past and love it and will be able now to really look at it,” Taylor told council.
