Building official: 2011 looking like a good year

Things appear to be picking up this spring, at least when it comes to the township’s building department.

“We continue to do well,” deputy chief building official David Kopp told council on May 10. Last month, 37 building permits were issued for projects valued at $4,414,300, generating $34,911 in township fees. In April 2010, those figures were 34, $5,256,500 and $25,145 respectively.

About half of the permits issued last month (18) were for agricultural projects valued at just under $2.15-million and generating $19,991 in fees.

Six new single family dwellings permits were also applied for last month, which are worth $1.35-million and generated $6,921 in fees.

Up until April 30, a total of 85 permits have been issued in 2011 for projects worth just over $11.45-million and generating $94,161 in fees. For the same period last year, those figures were 77, over $10.93-million and $67,159 respectively.

“It’s looking like a good year,” Kopp said of the figures.
