WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police are asking break-in victims to check if their stolen items are among those recovered by a neighbouring police force.
On Jan. 15, York Regional Police announced they had charged five suspects and recovered stolen property as a result of an investigation there.
York police explained the stolen property, which includes jewelry and other “valuables,” was taken between August and December of last year.
To date, the suspects have been linked to six break-ins in York and Peel regions and in Toronto, police say.
However, a Wellington County OPP press release on Jan. 24 indicates some of the recovered property may have been stolen during break-ins that occurred in “surrounding jurisdictions” over the same time period.
The OPP is suggesting local residents review photos on the York Regional Police website to see if any of the unclaimed stolen items belong to them.
In addition to jewelry, the items include clothing, footwear, watches, glasses/sunglasses, handbags and more.
Police say “anyone with information about a potential item being recovered/located” should call investigators at 1-888-310-1122.
They are also asking anyone with video footage of a residential break-in to call police or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
