Annual bishop’s dinner raises nearly $30,000

GUELPH – The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB)   raised almost $30,000 for local community organizations at its annual Bishop’s Dinner for Community Needs on Oct. 10.

Celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the dinner, this year the WCDSB welcomed over 300 attendees to support community members in need.

This year’s event included an auction, speeches from students and representatives of the community organizations that the event supports, and dinner from the Italian Canadian Club.

The dinner raised money for the Centre Wellington Food Bank, Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Guelph and Wellington County.

“It’s truly inspiring to witness the outpouring of community support from our Wellington Catholic family and beyond,” said WCDSB chair Marino Gazzola.

“Generous donations from our community sponsors the Ontario English Catholic Teacher’s Association, Barzotti Woodworking, St. Jerome’s University, GuelphToday, McElderry and Morris, Old Quebec Street, Woodrill, Guelph Toyota, Watson and Associates Economists Ltd., Barry Cullen Chevrolet Cadillac Ltd., Prime Care Arboretum Inc., and the Italian Canadian Club, along with silent auction prize donations from each of our school communities and central office allowed for a successful fundraising event,” officials state in a press release.

“We are deeply grateful for the support of the sponsors of this event, the generosity of our participants and the help of our school communities,” said education director Michael Glazier.

Over the course of its 22-year history, the annual Bishop’s Dinner for Community Needs has raised nearly $850,000 for community organizations in need.
