Aggregate organization expanding

On May 16, Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever reported the group formerly representing the top 10 aggregate producing municipalities has a new name – the Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario.

Lever said the name change came as a result of more municipalities wishing to be part of the group. The invitation is now out to about 40 municipalities.

“Whether they all join or not remains to be seen, but there appears to be a lot of interest,” Lever said.

Before council was a list of the revised terms of reference for the group, which plans to work with industry partners and provincial decision makers to ensure a sustainable further for aggregate production in Ontario.

He said on May 14 he had a conference call with the group and later that day was at the standing committee on general government at Queen’s Park with Mayor Marolyn Morrison of Caledon, who chairs the aggregate group and is involved in an all-party review of the Aggregate Resources Act.

“I’d say we were pretty well received with what we presented,” Lever concluded.
