Wightman celebrates 115 years

CLIFFORD –  Wightman has begun a celebration of 115 years in the telecommunications business.

Founded in 1908 by Robert Wightman, an enterprising young farmer from Howick Township, Wightman has grown over the years to one of the largest independent telecommunications companies in Canada. Throughout the decades, Wightman has remained family owned, and is now under the leadership of Paul and Blair Wightman.

Wightman has continued to invest in telecommunications infrastructure, delivering “Fibre to the Home” to communities across southern Ontario, company officials state in an April 18 press release.

“Wightman doesn’t just bring fibre to towns – it brings growth, jobs, and community support,” the release states.

Wightman is proud of its support for local sports teams, children’s charities, food banks, community events, and students through the Wightman Bursary Foundation.

“We are incredibly proud of our history in serving the community. We are thankful for the help and support of employees, customers, suppliers, and neighborhoods to achieve this milestone,” reads a statement from Wightman co-chairs Paul and Blair Wightman.

To celebrate the anniversary, Wightman has launched a celebration logo and birthday webpage that highlights its history and a birthday gift promotion (wightman.ca/birthday) and made plans to be present in community outreach activities all year.
