Whole-hog barbecue a success in Fergus

As summer came to an end, the Wellington Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (WCSA) held a day of pig roasting, with 300 guests at their site in Fergus.

WCSA board chair Jana Reichart said, “Without contributing sponsors like Morton Wholesale Ltd., Woolwich Dairy, Pommies Dry Cider, and Neustadt Springs Brewery the whole hog barbecue would certainly not have been as enjoyable of an event for our guests.” She added, “And the sponsorship provided by Scotia Bank was a big reason why this event was such a successful fundraiser.” The event raised just over $7,000, with almost half coming from Scotiabank matching ticket sales sold in their Fergus Branch.

Michael Appleton, branch manager, noted, “It was very easy for us to support the WCSA whole hog barbecue given that we’re such a strong agricultural community and such great hosts for visitors. We should show off.”

The WCSA plans to make the barbecue an annual event the first Saturday after Labour Day.

The WCSA strives to be the hub of community initiatives which promote a sustainable food and agriculture system.
