Wellington Live Free Celebration to raise vital funds for students too hungry to learn

Every day, in local communities, children are going to school too hungry to learn.

Many of these children come from families who struggle to make ends meet and nutritious food is often seen as a luxury they cannot afford.

The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington Food & Friends program is bringing healthy food to hungry minds.

The 107 student nutrition programs in Dufferin, Wellington and Guelph serve over 15,000 students and aim to give every child the equal opportunity to focus, learn and achieve a bright future.

Studies have shown that students who regularly eat morning meals show improved behaviour, reduced tardiness, improved focus and better grades.

The annual Live Free Campaign raises vital funds and awareness to help sustain this important programming so more children have the nourishment they need to reach their full potential.

Friday, March 3 is Live Free Day, a day to set aside a simple luxury in honour of the children and youth in our communities who live without the daily food they need.

A Live Free Celebration is held at one school in each of the communities where Food & Friends student nutrition programs operate.

The Ontario Student Nutrition Services Live Free Celebration for Wellington County was March 1 at Elora Public School where students, staff, community leaders and guests will gather for breakfast. All funds raised stay within the program that they are raised, sustaining their own Food & Friends program.

Anyone wishing to donate to the campaign to help local kids live free from hunger can visit livefreewdg.ca and click on the “Donate” tab. Even a small donation will have a great impact: $10 provides 11 healthy snacks and $2 will feed a child breakfast. Give a little, change a lot and help end student hunger.
