Township appoints councillor Dan Yake as Canada 150 leader

On Jan. 16, Wellington North announced its participation in the Canada 150 Community Leaders network.

Mayor Andy Lennox and Wellington North council named councillor Dan Yake as the local voice for the township for Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

The network will be comprised of community leaders from thousands of municipalities across Canada to ensure the municipal voice is front-and-centre during the year-long celebrations.

Recognizing that community building is nation building, this national network of community leaders will ensure municipalities are showcased as part of the Canada 150 celebrations and beyond.

“Councillor Yake has played a significant role in our community for many years,” said Lennox.

“Most notably he has sat on council for the past 23 years and received recognition as the 2016 Citizen of the Year through the Mount Forest and District Chamber of Commerce.”

Lennox added, “This is in addition to the many other committees and community projects that he has been involved with and promoted. It was a natural fit for our council to nominate [him to represent] Wellington North as a Canada 150 community leader.”

Yake said, “I’m honoured to act as the official community voice for Canada 150 events in our municipality.”

He added he hopes “to encourage interest, inspire dialogue, stimulate connections and promote connections with various associations and individuals.”
