Renaissance festival – PHOTO 1: These boys had a little sword play at the Fairy and Iron Renaissance Faire, held at Cox Creek Winery on July 5. The event was one of six hosted by Cool Aunt Creatives, where a fantasy author created at story that weaves through the six events. It was a medieval take on the modern day Bachelor series, where six ladies vied for the love of the prince. PHOTO 2: These girls enjoyed chasing the bubbles made by the actor on stilts called Peggy at the Faire. PHOTO 3: The Eyrie Birds of Prey made a presentation at the Fairy and Iron Renaissance Faire. PHOTO 4: Many guests dressed in fantasy costumes including Matthew Stevenson and Spencer Oake. PHOTO 5: Liz Scott got in the spirit of the renaissance faire at her vendor’s booth, where she sold hand crafted bags, home decor, blankets and what-nots. Tour – The Fergus and District Horticultural Society hosted its annual Garden Tour on June 28 with locations in both Fergus and Elora. The self-guided tour featured five locations, each location accepted donations towards the Centre Wellington Food Bank, raising $2,684. Pets – PHOTO 1: Donkeys love to be pet and Lindsay Empringham loved petting this donkey, Monteray, at the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada’s open house on July 5. PHOTO 2: Donkeys are like dogs – they roll on the ground to scratch their backs. PHOTO 3: Mosquitos are a bother for donkeys, so volunteers have made pants for them, for protection. Dozens of volunteers guided the public through the sanctuary during its open house on July 5. PHOTO 4: Kinsley Gallo and her father Kyle had quite a chat with this donkey named Maple at the open house. The sanctuary holds several open houses over the summer. Photos by Joanne Shuttleworth




Buttertart tour – The Great Canadian Buttertart Tour came back to Fergus on July 4. Hosted at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, the event had several vendors including buttertart bakers, hot sauce creators, handmade artisans and a cartoonist. Photos by Nicole Beswitherick




Pride flag - Wellington Heights Secondary School (WHSS) students celebrated Pride month with a June 1 flag raising ceremony and June 13 parade.
