Hillside fun – Last year’s inaugural Gravity Grand Prix in Hillsburgh was an instant hit, and the highly anticipated 2026 edition took place on Aug. 29. Anne Street was lined with spectators cheering on the racers throughout the event, as a full slate of 30 participants competed for top honours. Raising the funds – The Fergus Curling Club hosted a one-day-only fundraising event for the community to support the club’s U20 team – Team MacDougall – leading up to the 2027 World Junior Curling Championships in Scotland where it will represent Canada. The event was held on Aug. 29 and featured a corn hole tournament, Waddies games and a battle of the bands. Farm power – The Vintage Power Show took place Aug. 29 and 30 at 4584 Wellington Rd. 32 in Puslinch from 9am to 3pm. Fun in Minto – On Aug. 29, the Minto Arts Council partnered with the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum and Minto Farmers Market to create a Summer Fun Day and En Plein Air event. PHOTO 1: Throughout the day, attendees could enjoy live music by Drew Moore as well as food and refreshments, local vendors, kids activities, and artists painting throughout the museum grounds. Show it off – The Alma Optimist Club hosted its 16th annual Car Show and Swap Meet on Aug. 29 at the Alma Community Centre. The event featured over 300 registered cars. Wheels – On Aug. 19, the Maitland Valley Historical Automobile Society, in collaboration with Quality Homes, held a vintage car show on the main lot of Quality Homes’ Kenilworth location. Ambassador competition – The Palmerston Ambassador of the Fair competition took place at the Palmerston arena on Aug. 19. With three competing for senior ambassador and nine for junior ambassador, the evening provided lots of entertainment. PHOTO 1: Announced as the 2026-27 Senior Ambassador, and winner of the Friendship Award, was Emeline Zemmelink, right. Here, Hannah and Ryan congratulate Zemmelink. The winner is currently attending the University of Guelph to become a high school teacher in art and social sciences, entering her third year this fall. She is sponsored by Kathrine Alton of Palmerston Optometry. “Active in her community, Emeline works for the Town of Minto in landscaping and with the Minto Summer Day Camp. She enjoys crafting, exploring the outdoors, fashion and thrifting, and hopes to travel the world and build a family in the future,” officials say. PHOTO 2: Felicity Signer, right, was announced as the 2026-27 Junior Fall Fair Ambassador. She recently completed Grade 6, and will be attending Drayton Heights in the fall. She is sponsored by Martin VanZandwyk of VanZandwyk Farms. She is joined here by 2025-26 Junior Fall Fair Ambassador Clara Schneider. “Felicity is very active in sports and her community, enjoying soccer, track and field and 4H. She has received over 14 awards, most recently Top Grade 6 Female Athlete for her track and field efforts,” officials say. “Felicity’s favourite part of the fair is having fun with her friends at the inflatables. If given a million dollars, she would build a sports facility for less fortunate kids as she believes everyone should get to play and learn what it's like to be on a team.
