Sewage allocation for Eastridge approved

Councillors are reinstating 18 sewage allocation units to developers of the Eastridge Subdivision in Arthur.

Earlier this month, proponent James Coffey wrote to the municipality looking for reinstatement of the allocation in order to proceed with the development and servicing of 18 lots in phase 2 of the development.

He wrote that phase 1 is progressing steadily.

“We currently have 15 foundations in and 10 homes built and sold within the last two years.”

At the recent water and sewer committee meeting Works Superintendent Gary Williamson reported that the reason the allocations were originally lost was due to proponents not renewing the allocation request within the appropriate time.

However, the committee agreed since the project is proceeding, and that the units were allocated in the past, the request should be supported.

Wellington North council subsequently passed a motion that the units, originally allocated for a 12 month period, be reallocated for another 12 months.

After that, the units will be withdrawn if it does not appear that development is going ahead.

Mayor Mike Broomhead said he was in the area the other day and there appears to be a number of new foundations in place.

“There’s a lot going on up there. To me it is a good sign,” Broomhead said.
