Sacred Heart Catholic school celebrates 10 years
Future of Rockwood school 'filled with possibility, growth and new generations of students': Nagy
ROCKWOOD – Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School in Rockwood kicked off its 10th anniversary celebrations with a well attended party on June 22.
Students, staff, parents and friends were treated to live music, pizza, cotton candy, shaved ice treats, rock wall climbing and two bouncy houses, as well as door prizes and other activities and goodies.
The school, which opened its doors in September of 2016, is the first and only Catholic school in Rockwood.
“Sacred Heart is what it is today because of our past and our present,” said principal Michelle Nagy.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead. The future of Sacred Heart is bright. It is filled with possibility, growth and new generations of students who will continue to write their own stories within these walls.”
To help commemorate the milestone, Guelph/Eramosa council gifted the school a tree.
“A tree is a powerful symbol,” said Nagy. “Rooted in the past, growing in the present and reaching toward the future. It is a perfect reflection of what Sacred Heart stands for.”
Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White and councillors Steven Liebig and Mark Bouwmeester attended the celebration.
“It took us a while to get this school off the ground, we were never really sure if we were going to have a Catholic school or not,” said White.
“Congratulations on your 10th anniversary ... enjoy your festivities, enjoy the end of the year and we will see you in 10 years maybe.”
Students and staff also presented a sealed time capsule containing items created and provided by staff and students.
It is “ready to be stored and opened in hopefully another 10 years,” said Nagy.
