The Rotary Club of Erin honoured Rev. Irene Walback with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award at its annual charter dinner on Jan. 28.

Walback was selected to receive the award in recognition of the significant difference she makes in the community through her personal service and commitment.

Officials say Walback’s community service perfectly embodies Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self.”

She serves as a deacon at All Saints Anglican Church in Erin, as well as chaplain at the Erin branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and at Guelph General Hospital.

Walback’s community work brings comfort to the bereaved and shut-ins and provides mentoring and support to youths.

Her community work includes provision of breakfasts at Erin Public School, organizing of community dinners, and membership on an East Wellington Community Services committee focussing on the needs of the rural community.

The Paul Harris Award named Walback as a Fellow of the Rotary Foundation, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017.
