Register for GRCA winter adventure camps
Kids can spend part of their school break at Winter Adventure camp at Laurel Creek Nature Centre (Waterloo), Guelph Lake Nature Centre and - for the first time - Shade’s Mills Nature Centre (Cambridge).
Register and find more information online at www.grandriver.eventbrite.ca.
Winter Adventure camps are fun and educational. They teach 6 to 10 year olds about the natural environment by providing hands-on, environmental programs.
“My son has spent much of the past three summers at GRCA day camps and they are, far and away, his favourite,” said parent Scott Robertson. “The combination of fun, passionate and knowledgeable counsellors, and other kids with similar interests has been great for this otherwise tech-absorbed youngster. As parents, we couldn’t ask for more.”
These programs feature nature-themed activities and adventures such as hikes, games and crafts. Participants go outside daily to explore the fields and forests that surround our nature centres. The goal is to introduce children to a lifetime of appreciation for the natural world that sustains us all.
Winter Adventure activities may include snow shoeing, crazy carpeting, feeding chickadees, snow sculpture building and animal tracking, depending on weather conditions. Even if there isn’t any snow there will be plenty of outdoor exploration and games in the fields and forests surrounding the nature centres.
Sign up for individual days on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday Dec. 28 to 30, or for all four days Tuesday to Friday, January 3 to 6.
The camp activities take place 9am to 4pm daily, and there is free supervision starting at 8am and late pick-up until 5pm.
This is the first time that this program has been offered at Shade’s Mills in Cambridge.
Note that no winter camp is taking place at Apps’ Mill Nature Centre this year because it is closed for renovations.
