Puslinch readies for Roszell pit OMB hearing

An Ontario Municipal Board hearing about Preston Sand and Gravel’s Roszell Road gravel pit will start in the new year.

Earlier this month Puslinch  council got a notice from the OMB that the hearing, expected to last about six weeks, will start on Jan. 12 at 11am at the Puslinch community centre.

Last week, the township approved $19,118 to hire Don McKinnon, of Dillon Consulting, to undertake a peer review and provide expert testimony at the hearing. McKinnon is expected to address the potential social impacts associated with the hauling route for the proposed pit.

Preston is seeking approval of a zoning bylaw to permit gravel extraction on a 60 acre, triangular-shaped piece of land east of the Speed River and west of Roszell Road.

Councillors have echoed the concerns of nearby residents, many of whom are fearful of the impacts the pit – and 120 to 300 trucks using the Concession Road 4 haul route every day – will have on their way of life.
