Province allocating more than $6.2 million for area hospitals
PERTH-WELLINGTON – The Ontario government is spending at least $6.2 million aimed at improving operations and reducing wait times at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, Listowel Memorial Hospital and the North Wellington Health Care Corporation. The funds are part of a $1.1-billion investment into hospitals from this year’s provincial budget, which the government is touting as a four-per-cent increase in annual hospital support for a fourth consecutive year.
“Our local hospitals play a vital role in providing high-quality care to residents across Perth and Wellington Counties, and this funding will help support the important work they do every day,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae in a statement.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Perth-Wellington can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Health Minister Sylvia Jones in a statement.
Over the next decade, the government plans on spending $64 billion on health infrastructure, part of its goal to fund 50 major hospital projects and deliver around 3,000 new hospital beds.
