Plans for new hog barn moving ahead; Ski Road parochial school planned
MINTO – Curvin Bearinger is getting his land rezoned for a new hog barn expected to be constructed just outside of Clifford.
The barn and manure storage is planned to be about three times the size of an NBA basketball court and located on Bearinger’s 79-hectare Minto-Normanby Townline property.
The rules say the proposed 14,208-square-foot barn should be located 768 metres from Clifford’s settlement boundary – the concern being the proximity to residents – but council permitted an exception for the barn to be located just 340 metres away.
“The lands within the Clifford settlement boundary adjacent to the subject property are used as lagoons for the town sewage system,” said Wellington County planner Jamie Barnes at a May 5 town council meeting.
“The closest residential lot is more than 1,000 meters from the proposed expansion,” Barnes added.
Parochial school
On Ski Road, a new parochial school is planned but requires both town and county approvals to move forward.
The school would be similar to one built around two years ago on 14th Line, and would be the ninth such school serving Mennonite communities in Minto.
Mervin and Mary Bearinger want to sever two acres from their 50-acre property to allow for the school.
The town supported the severance application, but the county, as the final decision maker, has yet to weigh in.
If the county approves the proposal, the Bearingers will need to return for a site-specific zoning amendment, similar to what Curvin Bearinger is doing for his barn.
