A petition calling on the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to fund and install new traffic signals at the intersection of Highway 7 and McLennan/Dunbar Street in Rockwood was recently presented to the Ontario legislature.

The petition, which was launched by Guelph-Eramosa  Mayor Chris White and Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott  last November, was presented at Queen’s Park on Feb. 22.

“This traffic light is a major safety concern for our residents, as demonstrated by the petition,” White said.

Arnott agreed.

“We had a great response to our petition. More than 400 people have signed it so far,” Arnott said.

White and Arnott believe that traffic signals are urgently needed at the intersection on the south side of Rockwood in order to protect children who have to cross Highway 7 to reach École Harris Mill.

They have been working together to raise the issue with the MTO since the school opened in September 2014.
