No objections to rezoning or sale

If a recent public meeting is any indication, Mapleton residents have no objection to the rezoning and sale of a portion of Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) land near Conestogo Lake.

The land in question is a 14-acre parcel that is part of Lot 2, Concession 4 of the former Township of Maryborough.

At the public meeting on Jan. 11 county planner Mark Van Patter explained the GRCA wants to sell the property, which contains a workshop and a shed, and wants the property rezoned form the OS2 category (open space) to agricultural to facilitate the sale.

Proceeds from the sale would go to the construction of a new workshop elsewhere on the GRCA’s land.

Van Patter explained the county planning department has no objections or concerns regarding the rezoning and sale. No objections were voiced by members of the public.

Frank Visscher, of Moorefield, asked whether a bush on the property might be in peril as a result of the sale.

Van Patter explained the land was subject to the county’s forest conservation bylaw and was safe from destruction. With no objections voiced, the proposed change will proceed.
