MPP Rae announces seniors funding for Wellington North’s ‘Treks and Ties’
WELLINGTON NORTH – Provincial funding of $25,000 will support Wellington North township’s Treks and Ties: Social Journeys for Older Adults.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced the funding on June 26, along with another $25,000 each for two senior programs in Stratford.
The funding is meant to help bring seniors together.
“As more residents enter their golden years, it is important that they have access to programs, services and community spaces that help them stay active, connected and engaged,” Rae stated in a press release.
“Throughout Seniors Month (June), it has been a pleasure to recognize the organizations and volunteers who support seniors across our communities and to highlight our government’s investments in programs that help improve their quality of life,” he continued.
The Ontario government is spending close to $7 million for more than 320 Seniors Community Grants helping seniors stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected, close to home and in their communities, officials state.
“The Seniors Community Grants Program is a great example of how our government is working for local communities,” stated Seniors Minister Raymond Cho in the release.
“We are pleased to provide investments for so many services and activities that bring seniors together, learn new skills, get fit and stay connected to their neighbours and friends,” Cho continued.
In addition to the Wellington North programming, Hermione Presents will be running Puppets, People & Play: Skills & Connections and Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth will be running the Community Caregiver Connection Program, both in Stratford.
Each of these local programs have the goal of providing seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement, officials state in the release.
The Seniors Community Grant is a unique Ontario government grant designed to reduce social isolation, fight ageism and create positive connections.
Since 2018, Ontario has spent more than $40 million dollars on over 2,100 Seniors Community Grants.
