Mount Forest Rams win gold in Mitchell

The host Mitchell Meteors had no answer for the Mount Forest Rams in the gold-medal final at the Mitchell girls’ tournament on Oct. 23.

The Mount Forest girls posted a 5-1 victory over the hosts in the Bantam C final.

Morgan Flanagan led the charge with a three-point afternoon, including one goal and a pair of helpers.

Rams captain Haven LeBlanc scored the winner in the second and assisted on Carley Crispin’s insurance marker in a three-goal second for the visitors. Hailey Hodgins added a pair of assists.

Mount Forest tallied five consecutive goals in the contest after surrendering the game’s first goal six minutes into the first period.

“The wheels got a little shaky early in the first period but they never came off,” said Rams coach Bill Walker.

“Our coaches and our girls believe in our process and we knew if we stayed the course, we would be okay.”

Charlotte Todd and Chloe Roy also scored for the Rams who’ve improved their record to 9-0.

The Rams got several sensational saves from netminder Alyssa Varallo to keep the speedy Meteors at bay, officials say.

Mount Forest was 3-0 in round-robin play including a 6-0 win over the Sarnia Lady Sting on Oct. 22.

Flanagan had four goals while by Hodgins and LeBlanc added singles. Varallo had the shutout.

Flanagan had a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Walkerton on Oct. 21. Hodgins added a single. Varallo posted the shutout.

Crisp, Hodgins, LeBlanc, and Flanagan scored in a 4-2 win over Mitchell in the tournament opener on Oct. 20.

The Rams got solid play all tournament by its defense of Tori Grice, Kansas Laprade, Jayde McRobb, and Abby Walker as well as solid two-way play from Shea-Lynn Mclean and Peyton McBeth.
