Minto enters Metz Community Giant Pumpkin Challenge

Minto enters Metz mix – The Town of Minto is getting involved in the 2021 Metz Community Giant Pumpkin Challenge. Seven pumpkin seeds, one for each member of Minto town council, were planted on May 20. On hand for the planting were, from left: town landscape coordinator Paul Judge, deputy mayor Dave Turton and councillors Ron Elliott, Judy Dirksen and Mark MacKenzie.

The pumpkin challenge is hosted annually by the community of Metz, located at Sideroad 25 and Line 3, straddling the township line between West Garafraxa and Wellington North.

The weigh-off will be held Sept. 25 at 8276 Sideroad 25, Wellington North. COVID-19 protocols (at the time) permitting, a family activity day will be part of the weigh off, including crafts and face painting activities for the kids, bouncy castle for the little ones, miniature train rides, and the popular “pumpkin cannon.” Any pumpkin under six inches is welcome to be blasted out of the cannon, explained Jim Coffey, one of the organizers.
