Mapleton council remuneration costs down by $12,000 in 2021

MAPLETON – The total cost of remuneration for township council members here was down by about $12,332 in 2021.

Lower expenditures for per diem pay, registration fees and travel accounted for the reduction, as for the second consecutive year most conferences and municipal gatherings were held virtually due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mapleton director of finance John Morrison presented a statement of council remuneration and expenses as required annually by provincial legislation, at the April 26 council meeting.

The total cost of council pay and expenses was $94,794 in 2021, compared to $107,126 in 2020. The total was $130,160 in 2019.

Per diem pay for councillors accounted for only $2,760 of the 2021 total, compared to $5,940 in 2020 and $16,100 the previous year.

Expenses of all types submitted by council members totalled just over $530 last year.
