COX, Russel McKinnon

It is with profound love and deep admiration that the family of Russel McKinnon Cox announces his passing. Born on May 27, 1925, in Eramosa Township in Wellington County, Ontario. Russel celebrated his 101st birthday surrounded by those who love him — a testament to a life lived with purpose, generosity, and uncommon grace. Russel was a dedicated husband to the late Liv Cox, with whom he shared more than fifty years of marriage before her passing in 2011. He is survived by his son Regan Cox (Heather), his daughter Lita Rosenberg, his grandchildren Grete, Graeme, Rachel, and Lauren, and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives he touched. Russel’s life was defined by Cox Construction Ltd., the company he built and guided with integrity for eighty years. Specializing in road work of all types, Cox Construction became a fixture of Wellington County and beyond — a business that employed generations of local families and helped build the roads, bridges, and infrastructure of the communities Russel called home. This month, the company celebrates its 80th anniversary, a milestone that reflects not only Russel’s dedication but the loyalty and hard work of every person who was ever part of the Cox Construction family. Beyond his business achievements, Russel gave freely and faithfully to his community. He supported causes close to his heart across housing, health, faith, and the well-being of children and families. Perhaps most telling of Russel’s character is the endowment he established through the Centre Wellington Community Foundation: the Russel Cox and Family Fund. Rooted in the belief that every child is precious, and grateful for the support of a wonderful community, Russel created this fund to address food insecurity among children and families in Wellington County. A private funeral service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those who wish to honour Russel’s memory consider making a donation to the Russel Cox and Family Fund through the Centre Wellington Community Foundation, 75 Melville St, Elora, ON N0B 1S0. https://cwcfoundation.ca/our-funds/
