Centre Wellington has three-way race for mayor
Dunsmore, Linton, Watters all running for top seat on council
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington will see a race for mayor in the October municipal election.
Current Mayor Shawn Watters is running for his second term; former councillor Neil Dunsmore, who ran for mayor and lost in 2022, is taking another try; and former Mayor Kelly Linton announced this week he’s running for the mayor’s seat in 2026.
Watters served three terms on local council and two terms on county council which ended in 2018. He was elected in 2022 as mayor.
Dunsmore was a Centre Wellington councillor from 2018 to 2022. He was unsuccessful in his bid to be mayor in 2022.
Linton was a township councillor from 2010 to 2014 and mayor from 2014 to 2022 when he decided not to run again. At the time he said eight years was enough for anyone to hold the seat.
Linton was also Wellington County warden from 2018 to 2022.
The municipal election is on Oct. 26, with nominations open until Aug. 21.
