Manderson peace bond case delayed yet again

A peace bond case against Guelph blogger Bill Manderson has been delayed yet again.

Court proceedings on Tuesday began with Guelph lawyer David Doney requesting a 30 minute break to consult with Manderson about representation in the peace bond matter.

After the break Doney said he would indeed represent Manderson, but because he was not adequately prepared to proceed, he asked for a two- week delay.

Private prosecutor Chris Wayland, of McCarthy Tetrault, agreed to the delay because he said it would be best if Manderson had a lawyer. But Wayland also noted he would like the matter to proceed as soon as possible given the nature of the case.

County councillor Brad Whitcombe and Chief Administrative Officer Scott Wilson sought the peace bond based on alleged threats made by Manderson in over 150 letters and on his website, smelly-welly.com.

If granted, the peace bond will require Manderson to keep the peace for a year, or face criminal charges.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for June 9 at 9am.
