Local hockey players will travel to Japan after big win

Two Wellington County boys will be travelling to Japan with the Waterloo Wolves after they became the 2015 Tri-City Toyota Hockey Challenge Tournament Champions on Nov. 14.

The Wolves beat the Kitchener Jr. Rangers 2-0 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium that Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Healey and Mitchell Lee of Centre Wellington will travel with the team to Hokkaido, Japan in March 2016 to take part in a cultural exchange and all-expense-paid trip with Toyota Motor Hokkaido and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc.

Healey scored the second goal of the game and the Wolves shut out the Jr. Rangers to take home the Wolves’ third Toyota Challenge.

The team played in front of approximately 1,500 fans.

This will be the 10th time that a team from the Tri-Cities has travelled to Japan since 1998 and the third trip won by a Waterloo team, with Waterloo’s first win coming in 2004.

The boys are flying to Japan this March break to compete against the Tomakamai Allstars as part of the 19th Annual Toyota Hockey Challenge.
