Helping Hands raffle yields over $27,000 for charities

The Helping Hands raffle, sponsored by Germania Mutual Insurance (GMI), yielded over $27,000 to support local charities.

The draw for prizes was held at the Minto Fire station in Harriston on Oct. 11.

“Germania wanted to keep with its tradition of supporting community charities when it invited three local charities along with Minto Fire to join its tent at the recent International Plowing Match (IPM),” President/CEO Dan Hill explained.

“Two North Wellington Health Care hospitals – Palmerston and District Hospital and Louise Marshall Hospital – along with the Saugeen Valley Children’s Safety Village, would further share in the proceeds of a raffle. Germania is proud to support all of these charities.”

In lieu of handing out token gifts to IPM visitors, Germania opted to purchase over $18,000 in prizes for the raffle.

Visitors learned about this upon entering the tent, officials say, and many purchased tickets to support the charities.

Minto Fire graciously declined any proceeds, officials added.
