Every spring Green Legacy distributes trees at no charge to Wellington County residents. Each municipality receives 5,000 seedlings to hand out to residents on a first come, first served basis. A variety of hardwood and coniferous species are available. The 2017 local Green Legacy tree distribution days are:

- Centre Wellington - April 29 from 8 to 10am at the Centre Wellington Infrastructure Services;

- Minto - April 29 from 8 to 10am at the Minto municipal office garage;

- Guelph-Eramosa - May 6 from 9am to 12pm at the Marden municipal garage and 9:30am to 1pm at the Rockwood fire hall;

- Erin - May 6 from 9 to 11am at the Erin municipal works yard; and

- Wellington North - May 6 from 9 to 11am at the Kenilworth works yard.

Both Mapleton and Puslinch held their tree distribution days on April 22.

In 2004, the Green Legacy was just a simple idea to plant 150,000 trees to celebrate the county’s 150th year anniversary. That idea has grown to over one million trees planted in Wellington County.
