Former Fire Chief Harold Weber passed away on Feb. 5 at the age of 72.

Weber joined the Harriston Fire Department in 1971 and held the positions of captain and deputy chief, as well as Harriston Minto Fire Chief from 1991 to 2007.

In 2011, he retired after 40 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Carole, his son Mark Weber of Mississauga and daughter Sherri Wylie and her husband Steve Wylie of Harriston.

“Harold was a firefighter in Harriston and Minto for 40 years and a fire chief for 17 years - definitely a long serving firefighter - so our hearts are a little heavy today,” said Minto Fire Chief Chris Harrow at the Feb. 6 council meeting.

A funeral service was to be held at Harriston United Church on Feb. 8.
