A full-time bylaw officer may be in the Town of Erin’s future.

Council Rob Smith first brought forward a notice of motion regarding bylaw services at the Sept. 15 council meeting.

The motion asking staff to bring a report to council was up for discussion at the Oct. 6 council meeting.

Smith asked council to direct staff to provide a report on the cost, advantages, disadvantages and any other considerations of employing a full-time bylaw officer to provide proactive enforcement as well as complaint-driven enforcement of the town’s bylaws.

Mayor Allan Alls explained the current bylaw officer is active only when the town is dealing with a complaint, but Smith is looking for a more proactive officer position.

A report will be provided at a future council meeting.
